English for International Tourism
In 2011, despite the economic downturn, the international tourism industry grew by 4.6% reaching 982 million tourist arrivals worldwide, making it one of the largest global industries. In this industry English language skills are both a daily requirement and essential for career advancement. In order to function professionally in English, employees need an understanding of the language system but also an awareness of how to implement it effectively and appropriately. In this session Iwonna Dubicka will look at activities that will help students of English to develop this awareness. She will take examples from the forthcoming new edition of English for International Tourism (Pearson 2013).
